Volunteers
The most valuable thing we can give is time.
Though checks from corporations are always appreciated, the personal investment of time plays an important role
in Subaru's ability to make a difference in the lives of children. We support those individual efforts by offering release
time for certain activities.
For nearly a decade, Subaru employees have participated in the Subaru Tutoring Program in local elementary schools.
Employees work with students on a 1:1 basis to improve basic academic and reading skills. Over the years,
our employees have donated more than 3,000 hours to help children succeed in school.
In 2001, we added the BookMates program as a companion to the established Tutoring Program.
Working in conjunction with the South Jersey Jewish Coalition for Literacy,
our employees read with and to first graders in an effort to help them improve
their own reading and reading comprehension skills.
As much as our employees give to youngsters, their aid does not end there. Subaru employees are very generous
with their time, helping such projects as the Multiple Sclerosis bike ride, Special Olympics, food collections and food banks,
literacy awareness, walk-a-thons, annual holiday gifts for local families, and non-profit organizations looking to
improve operations or solve problems.
Subaru employees across the country participated in the annual 2004 Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service
in January. Their generous donation of time made a difference to a number of organizations serving the communities
where our employees live and work:
